Coach Pietrack takes men’s basketball reins from FLC legend Hofman

Fort Lewis College’s new men’s basketball head coach, Bob Pietrack (’04, Exercise Science), has some big sneakers to fill.

Pietrack is taking over for Coach Emeritus Bob Hofman for the 2015-16 season. In his 19-year career, Hofman earned every basketball coaching record in school history, including most wins and highest winning percentage.

“His coaching accomplishments speak for themselves,” says Pietrack. “It is truly an honor to take over the reins from Coach Hofman.”

Skyhawks basketball launches its campaign with a preseason matchup at Division I University of Wyoming on Saturday. The regular season’s first home game pits the Skyhawks against Eastern New Mexico University on Friday, November 13.

“Taking over any program has its challenges,” he adds, “but I don’t feel pressure because of how successful Coach Hofman was. I consider him my coaching mentor.”

Pietrack is no newcomer to the Skyhawks’ court. He played for FLC as a student and coached on Hofman’s staff for eleven years.

“Our program has always taken great pride in being successful in the classroom and on the court,” Pietrack says. “I am determined to keep our program successful.”

“The fact that I get to coach at my alma mater, at a school that I love, in a town that I call home, is truly a dream come true for me,” Pietrack adds. “This is the only school that I have been associated with, and I want to keep it that way. I am a Skyhawk!”
