Master's candidate earns national honors with Milken award [VIDEO]
Fort Lewis College graduate student and third-grade teacher Carrie Harper, from Durango's Sunnyside Elementary School, was named as a prestigious Milken Educator, along with only 39 other teachers nationwide, in January. She is the only recipient from southwest Colorado and received a $25,000 award.
Here's what she had to say about the Fort Lewis College Teacher Leadership master's program:
The Teacher Education Department has strong deep roots in the Four Corners region, and they reach out to the area schools and meet with the principals and superintendents. They listen and craft their programs around the needs and wants of the community, state, and federal educational leaders.
My action research and many of my lessons were inspired by my professors and the education that I am receiving at Fort Lewis College. The Teacher Education Department values training educators how to teach students to learn and use 21st Century Skills.
