Sprint business education courses launch at FLC’s Center for Innovation

This fall, Fort Lewis College’s School of Business Administration and the Center for Innovation will launch a turbo-charged business education series. These one-week-long sprints are designed for business owners, entrepreneurs, and anyone interested in obtaining business savviness–quickly.

“[SOBA faculty members] were looking for additional opportunities to engage with our amazing community,” said Tomasz Miaskiewicz, associate professor of FLC’s Marketing program. “While SOBA faculty members regularly collaborate with local businesses and organizations, the sprints provide a very different format and an opportunity to directly share our areas of expertise.”

FLC business faculty, including Miaskiewicz and professors of Management Elizabeth Cartier and Ivan Guardiola, will conduct the initial courses with plans to add more in the future. Miaskiewicz will lead a hands-on course that teaches participants how to build professional websites using a no-code tool called Webflow. Cartier’s course discusses tactics for hiring and retaining talented employees. Guardiola will take a deep dive into the myriad uses of Microsoft Excel to help business folk successfully deploy, create, and facilitate daily business practices and processes.

Each course incorporates real-world projects and FLC’s signature experiential learning quality. Course content is tailored to fit small business operations within the context of Durango’s dynamic economy. Participants will finish the program with a certificate of completion to share on LinkedIn and the preparation to put their newfound skills into immediate action.

“The fast-paced nature of the sprints will allow individuals to learn tools and develop valuable skills in as little as one week,” Miaskiewicz said.

The inaugural sprints will debut for three consecutive weeks, beginning October 3, 2022, at the Center for Innovation in the Main Mall (835 Main Avenue Suite 225). The courses will offer flexible scheduling and will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Participants can take their business skills to the next level with a special introductory price of $399 per sprint.
