Fort Lewis College’s Spring Commencement will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 9 a.m. on the Ray Dennison Memorial Field. This is the 60th commencement in FLC history, with 475 students participating. In addition to Spring 2022 graduates, students from 2020 who graduated via virtual ceremonies are invited to walk in this year’s in-person ceremony.

Addressing the graduates will be Gary Farmer, an actor and musician born in Ohsweken, Ontario, within the Six Nations of the Grand River.

In his career spanning four decades, Farmer originated the role of Zachary Jeremiah Keecheegeshik in the original production of Dry Lips Oughta Move to Kapuskasing for Theatre Passe Muraille, Native Earth Performing Arts, and eventually the Royal Alexander Theatre, all in Toronto. Recent credits include series regular on Resident Alien for NBC Universal/SyFy Network, Reservation Dogs for FX/Hulu, The English for BBC/Amazon (September 2022), and several independent films: Cowboys, Quantum Cowboys, Dark Divide, First Cow, Blood Quantum, The Incredible 25th Year of Mitzi Bearclaw, and Run Woman Run. Farmer has received three Independent Spirit Awards for Best Supporting Male in films: Powwow Highway (1989); Dead Man (1995), which won the 1996 European Academy Award for Best Foreign Film; and Smoke Signals (1998). Farmer is also the founder of Aboriginal Voices Radio Network.

Student marshals—the two students with the highest cumulative GPA of the graduating class—for the ceremony are Ashley Strader (Exercise Physiology) and Skylar Byrnes (Accounting).

The ceremonies are not open to the public. Students participating in commencement are each permitted eight guest tickets.

For those not attending the ceremonies in person, a livestream of the ceremony will be available on Facebook at facebook.com/fortlewis.
