Dr. Christie Chatterley is an associate professor in the Department of Engineering at Fort Lewis College. She joined the College in 2016. Before joining Fort Lewis, Dr. Chatterley lived abroad for six years working as a consultant in the water and sanitation development sector with organizations such as UNICEF, Water for People, and Save the Children to lead research aimed at improving policies and approaches for water and sanitation aid.
At the University of Colorado, Dr. Chatterley managed field-based interdisciplinary research in Peru for three years, working with undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Colorado, the Universidad Nacional de la Amazonia Peruana and the Universidad Católica San Pablo to understand the factors that influence the sustainability of water and sanitation technologies in low-income communities. As Project Manager, Dr. Chatterley worked with colleagues to create and manage research opportunities with three organizations in Peru and led proposals for over $170,000 of funding from the National Science Foundation and the University of Colorado.
Dr. Chatterley has published her research in a variety of professional journals such as BMC Public Health, Journal of Water Sanitation and Hygiene for Development, and the Journal of Water and Health. Presentations include the Water and Health Conference in 2015, a presentation to the Inter-American Development Bank in 2014, a guest lecture at San Pablo University in 2013, and the UCI/UNESCO Conference on Water Scarcity and Global Changes in 2008. She has served as a committee member for the Global Network for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools since 2013 and led projects with the University of Colorado Engineers without Borders Rwanda team from 2005-2009.
