Originally from northern California, Elicia received a BA in Environmental Analysis from Pomona College, focusing on sustainable development and field biology. In 2010, she received an MA in Geography from the University of Minnesota where she studied environmental movements, political ecology, and critical geography. Her master's thesis examines the environmental politics of cloud seeding.
Joining the growing alternative food & agriculture movement, Elicia farmed for three years at Green Gulch Farm on the coast of Marin County, California. As an apprentice and then staff at Green Gulch, she received thorough training in organic & biointensive farming methods. In 2014, she was head gardener at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, and in spring of 2015 moved to Hesperus to try her hand at high desert growing in the Old Fort’s fields where she is the Sustainable Agriculture Program Manager. You can read her reflections on farming at the Old Fort in the New Farmers Almanac Volume IV and in Edible Southwest Colorado. She lives in Mancos with her husband & daughter.
