Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day activities at Fort Lewis College
The annual Fort Lewis College tradition of celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016. The community is invited to join in the day’s free activities.
The traditional March of Solidarity will begin the celebration at 12:15 p.m. Those wishing to participate should gather at the Center of Southwest Studies. The march will wind through campus, ending inside the Student Union where the FLC Choir will perform at 12:30 p.m.
A number of social justice workshops will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Workshops include Moving the Movement: Street Dance Activism, Mindful Listening as Activism, and How to Build a Campaign That Will Save the World. The workshops will run until 3:30 p.m.
MLK Day at Fort Lewis College will conclude with presentations from activists from the Black Lives Matter movement. Among the presentations will be education on the history of black liberation campaigns, as well as hip hop and dance performances. The evening events begin at 6 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.
