Elizabeth Bahe will be Fort Lewis College’s new director of the Native American Center and Diversity Collaborative. She is replacing retiring Native American Center Director Yvonne Bilinski. She’ll also oversee the College’s Diversity Collaborative, which includes the Native American Center, El Centro de Muchos Colores, and the Office of Diversity Programming. She’ll begin August 1, 2017.

“A few years back, a former college access program I oversaw coordinated an overnight campus visitation program with Fort Lewis College,” she recalls. “We brought a busload of high school students and their parents from the New Mexico tribal communities. I viewed Fort Lewis from their perspective, walked the campus with them, and heard their dreams of attending college.

“It was during this time that I decided that when the opportunity arose, I would seek a role with the College and the time has arrived. I am immensely happy to be stepping into this new role and look forward to working with the Diversity Collaborative in supporting students and the campus community.”

Ms. Bahe comes to Fort Lewis College from Williamette University in Oregon, where she served as director of Native American Programs. She also worked with the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe in a number of capacities, such as project director for their Student Success Collaborative, director of retention and assessment, and project director for Expanding the Circle, a statewide tribal outreach program focusing on college preparation and access.

Her maternal tribe is Navajo and paternal tribe is Lac du Flambeau Band of Chippewa Indians.
