Payment plans for former students

Students taking a break or leaving FLC permanently can request to be placed on an Extended Payment Plan.

Email the Student Billing Office to understand your Extended Payment Plan options. Skyhawk Station cannot set up these plans, and students cannot sign up independently.

Student Billing will email you the terms and conditions regarding the monthly payments you will make until your balance is paid. The plan allows Student Billing to take the total of your past-due balance and divide it into 12 monthly payments. Student Billing will only accept payments greater than $100.

Time Conflict Overrides

The Colorado Department of Education's Commission on Higher Education requires students to have 750 minutes of seat time for each credit hour they earn. To prevent the College from running afoul of accreditation standards, we cannot permit time-conflict overrides under any circumstances, even if the amount of overlapping time is minimal.

However, instructors may arrange for students to take Independent Study credits instead of one of the classes. Departments can grant substitutions so that Independent Study credits satisfy a particular major or minor requirement.

Dependency Override Appeal

The Financial Aid Office can use professional judgment on a case-by-case basis to adjust the data used to calculate the Student Aid Index (SAI) or a student's cost of attendance.

This type of appeal means a student asks the FLC Financial Aid Office to review their dependency status to determine if they qualify as independent based on their family situation.

For the Financial Aid Office to consider an Appeal, the student must document an extreme, unique, and/or unusual family circumstance that prevents them from obtaining parental information.

Circumstances considered include:

  • Abandonment by parents
  • An abusive family environment that threatens the student's health and safety
  • Inability to locate parents
  • Incarceration or institutionalization of both parents
  • Severe estrangement from a parent

Circumstances that DO NOT qualify for consideration include:

  • Parents refuse to contribute to the student's education or are not supporting the student
  • Parents are unwilling to provide information on the FAFSA or for verification
  • Parents do not claim the student as a dependent for income tax purposes
  • The student demonstrates total self-sufficiency

How to appeal for a Dependency Override

If a student believes they qualify to appeal for a dependency override, they must contact Skyhawk Station for the Dependency Override Appeal Form.

General Instructions

Students appealing for a Dependency Override must:

  • Submit a signed Request for Dependency Override form, along with a signed personal statement outlining why they should be considered independent, their current living situation, how they are supported, and details of the relationship/situation with both biological/adoptive parents.
  • Have a current year FAFSA on file with the "special circumstances" box checked without parental information.
  • Submit at least two signed letters from third parties confirming the student's situation and/or an official document such as a court order. At least one source must be from an unrelated professional who can verify the student's situation (A third party includes, but is not limited to, a teacher, counselor, medical authority, social worker, or a government agency).
  • Return the form to the Financial Aid Office in person or via our Secure Upload.

Deadline:

The Financial Aid Office must receive the request and supporting documentation by the midterm date of the Spring semester or 1st day of the summer term if beginning attendance in the summer for the current academic year.

Aid adjustments:

Approving a Dependency Override Appeal does not guarantee increased financial aid awards.

Notification of Appeal

Completed Dependency Override Appeals process within 2-3 weeks after submission. The student will receive an email to their FLC

Grade replacement

A student who wishes to replace a grade must adhere to the following policies and procedures:

  1. Students must follow all policies regarding the repetition of coursework.
  2. Some courses may be taken more than once for full credit (e.g., some special topics courses, independent studies, and internships); these courses are not eligible for grade replacement.
  3. The semester hours and quality points in repeated courses are counted only once. The highest grade and its corresponding quality points are used to compute the quality point average and meet graduation requirements.
  4. Students can replace a maximum of 3 classes up to 12 credit hours ("cumulative replacement hours") with improved grades earned by repeating courses.
  5. The credit hours of each repeated course will count toward the cumulative replacement hours.
  6. All grade entries remain a part of the student's permanent record.
Independent Study (299)/Individual Study (499)

The Independent Study forms are now available in the Student Resource Center.

  • Initiating the form: Students must initiate the form through the Student Resource Center.
  • Filling out the form: Students must complete their personal information upon initiating the form. However, they can complete the rest of the form themselves or have their instructor do it.
  • Form routing and approval: After the student completes and signs the form, it will be routed to the instructor. Once the Associate Dean approves it, the Registrar will proceed to create the section and register the student as usual.
