Admission and auditions

Prospective students must be admitted to FLC in advance of auditioning. Students are not required to audition to become a Theatre major unless they seek a scholarship. An audition is required for the Musical Theatre program. Auditions take place each spring, with scholarships announced immediately following. 

Fill out the application form to participate in the on-campus audition or to submit an audition video. Any student may participate in our Major for a Day  program prior to auditioning.

Theatre Scholarship Audition Requirements

  • Prepare one comedic and one dramatic monologue 60-90 seconds each.

Musical Theatre Audition/Scholarship Requirements

  • One contemporary monologue (written after 1950) from a published play or by a professional writer. A professional writer is someone whose plays have been produced, even if not professionally published.
  • One song written before 1965 (musical theater, Golden Age, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.).
  • One song written after 1965 (musical theater, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.). This song should contrast the style of your first selection (for example, a ballad and an uptempo piece).
  • Dance auditions will be held in the afternoon. Please dress appropriately and stretch before the audition.

Video audition requirements

  • Prepare one comedic monologue.
  • Prepare two songs: one uptempo and one ballad from the Musical Theatre Repertoire.
  • Prepare a 90-second musical theatre dance combo.
  • Video auditions must be received one week prior to the on-campus audition date(s).

Acceptance & scholarships

All prospective students who are admitted into FLC and audition will be considered for a scholarship. Scholarship decisions are based on video and/or in-person auditions.
