Di Ann Ryter joined the college in 2015. Ryter’s experiences and interests in teaching social sciences education focus on awareness and concern for diverse learners, multiculturalism, social justice, and global connections. Prior to joining the faculty at Fort Lewis College, Ryter was an assistant professor of Social Studies Education at Oklahoma State University, an affiliate faculty member at the School of International Studies, and an instructor at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She has also taught social studies in Tanzania, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Jamaica, teaching environmental education and reading.
Ryter has served as a reviewer for the National Council for the Social Studies and the Journal of International Social Studies. She is a member of professional organizations, including the National Council for the Social Studies and its affiliates, the College and University Faculty Assembly and the International Assembly.
