Admitted Students

This experiential course develops leadership skills that students can apply in real-world situations. Through interactive and collaborative activities, students will become more aware of various communication and leadership concepts and fine-tune skills related to ethical decision-making, problem-solving, negotiation, conflict management, and presentation.

In this course we will explore Latine/Hispano cultural Identity and how it contributes to success in college.  How we see ourselves matters.  As Latinx/Hispano college students, you will gain a stronger understanding of the complexities of college culture and learn more about the resources and support available to help you succeed at FLC.  We will cover issues such as First Gen Identity, family support structures, Imposter syndrome, and cultural responsibilities that impact academic success.

A chance to get your hands dirty working behind the scenes on an FLC Theatre Department Production. FYL students will learn new skills and work in the Costume Shop or Scene Shop. No previous experience necessary! Performances will take place in the Theatre MainStage, Black Box, or Community Concert Hall. Students will enjoy building relationships with their peers as they are mentored by theatre faculty and learn theatre skills. This FYL course is NOT for Theatre majors and not for students enrolled in Theatre 100/300 or Theatre 114/314.

This course will explore a variety of realistic self-care and social connection strategies, as well as on- and off-campus resources available to support you during your academic journey. We will get real and dig deep to help you find balance in an overwhelming world.

If your parents didn't get a college degree, congratulations, you're a first-generation college student! This course will discuss impostor syndrome, the unique vocabulary of college, juggling family/job/classroom expectations, getting familiar with the college culture, and being "the first!"

The FLC Concert Band is open to any student with wind, percussion, or bass instrument experience who wants to continue making music in college! First-year students are part of the regular ensemble, performing with a community of passionate music makers. You must be able to read music to be successful.

The FLC Concert Choir is open to all students regardless of singing background. First-year students are part of the regular ensemble, performing with a community of passionate music makers. A short placement audition is required so that students can sing in the correct section.

The FLC Orchestra is open to any student with string experience (violin, viola, cello, bass) who wants to continue making music in college! First-year students are part of the regular ensemble, performing with a community of passionate music makers. You must be able to read music to be successful.

Our lives are more meaningful when we find ways to serve others. Students will plan, engage in, and reflect on community service projects in this course. Scaffolding and support will be provided to help students find ways to serve their communities that align with their own values and interests.

Our planet's biodiversity has inspired human thought in every discipline, study, and art since prehistory. In this course, we’ll explore the overwhelming variety of ways in which different animals thrive, inviting students to explore their unique passions and skills.
