Projects
Swine Project
Beginning in 1988, market hogs were introduced into the Agriculture classes, particularly Introduction to Animal Science and Animal Nutrition. The young pigs were processed by AG 101 students in the Fall and weighed and measured every month. The Introduction class served as a general education requirement for a Science with a Lab and the project was used to demonstrate the scientific method. They are housed in the old Dairy Barn from September to February and a FLC student is hired to take care of them each year. At the completion of the project, they are sold as freezer pork (halves or wholes) or through the Old Fort Farm Stand.
